Needlepoint & Tapestry

Needle PointNeedle point is made by stitching over a canvas with an open grid. This canvas is very stiff and is usually framed on a wooden frame.

To make needle point art, a needle can be used to pass threads through the grids of the fabric to cover the design that has been drawn on the fabric to begin with. Threads are in various colors and follow the colors defined by design. Stitches are meant to cover the whole fabric and at the end it is as if a new fabric has been created.

The design on the fabric can be hand drawn or printed.

Silk, wool, cotton and even synthetic materials like polyester can be used as thread to make the stitches.

The canvas (foundation) can be of any material, for example cotton, wool or polyester, but it is usually very stiff to make it easier to work on.

Needle PointThe needle point technique can be used to create unique art work that can be used as cushion covers, hand bags, and  more.
